After what feels like months (er…IS months!) I can finally let the cat out of the bag and announce that Kirsten and I are expecting an ickle mini person to arrive in early June next year.
I wanted to wait until after the first scan before I told everyone, probably just paranoia on my part but for some reason saying anything before felt almost like tempting fate. Anyway I can happily report everything is fine, baby looks healthy, has two arms, two legs and one head (no idea on size of the poor things ears yet, hopefully it wont inherit mine! They’re not visible on the scan so I think we’re safe…).
Up until now I’d not really been able to visualise a baby floating about in Kirs tummy, obviously I knew it was there, but outwardly she just looked like she’d had a big dinner and its hard to imagine that the baby is now around the size of an apple. The scan really makes it hit home that theres another person inside her, it didnt last as long as we hoped it would but I didn’t have any problems ’seeing’ the baby which was something I’d worried about, since every print out I’d ever seen from a scan just looked like a splodge! But no, there he/she was, clearly moving his/her little arms and legs about… awww!
Afterwards I felt like there was four of us (Kir, Kennedy, baby and me) sitting in the waiting room, which is a feeling I’ve not had before - strange but nice.
Kirs just over 13 weeks on now, and the midwife said the due date should be around the 12th-16th of June, it’d be lovely if it was the 12th since thats Kirs Mum’s birthday! I’m just glad its not the 6th of June, we were VERY close to having the baby born on 6/6/06
The print out of the scan was a little disappointing, marginally bigger than a Polaroid photo and very dark compared to what was on-screen, but through the magic of photoshop I’ve made things a bit more visible, although I’m still struggling to print it in a way that looks as bright…

One final thing - according to a website I just looked up, at 13 weeks “your babys skin is still transparent, but their face is beginning to look more human.” It makes it sound like we’re having some sort of alien-invisible-man-baby!
